Jim Johnston is the head music writer for the WWE. If you have any of the WWE CD's, he's written about 98% of the entrance themes ever used in the WWE.
Even the songs that are played by bands like Motorhead, Saliva, Chris Warren Band (DX)............the songs were written by Jim.
I think without a doubt he should be in the HOF. Music is such a big part of wrestling. I was watching some of the older WrestleManias and the guys that didn't have entrance themes, weren't as exciting (at least entrance wise).
It just adds that extra flair (ha! no pun intended) to the event.
What do you think?

I was going to suggest that he shouldn't be included in the HoF simply because all of his work was done behind the cameras.
Then I checked the list of inductees on WWE.com and saw Vince Sr. on it, which means that clearly non-performers are eligible.
Therefore: yes he should.

Pete Rose.
William Perry.
The WWE(F) HOF has one criteria for entry: Vince's approval.
I say yes... that is my opinion, though.

I think this is getting out of hand, Pete Rose, and William Perry are two guys who shouldn't be in a wrestling HOF, as music writter??? come on whats next the guys who build the ring!!! No the HOF should be reserved for wrestlers whom deserve to be there.

I think he should, like you said entrance music adds such an extra "thing" to a wrestler's auro, and no one does better original entrance music than the WWE.

He's had some hit and miss runs. It seems like during the down times, the music is bad. But when biz is booming, the music is as well.
Some great 80s stuff that really fit the time frame. Early to mid 90s, veryyy bad music. Late 90s early 00s, boom period and the music was memorable (his best stuff as nearly all of the music fit the wrestler's characters). On a down side now...not a whole lot of memorable stuff. Almost like WCW music right now

And watch some shows and as the guys are coming to the ring, hit "mute" on your remote and see how cool the show is. The music entrances really do add a lot. And my point was, that this guy does a lot to add to pro wrestling and obviously devotes a lot of time and energy into making a quality product. At the very least, he deserves an honorable mention to the HOF.

Gatekeeper, I know you're a musician and therefore partial to this question ...but as a musician myself, I agree with you completely. I've always liked how certain entrance themes were written specifically to match some quality of a wrestler. To me, the entrance music serves as more of an introduction of the wrestler that's going to come out and entertain me more so than the actual ring announcer's remarks. Sometimes the beat matches the way the wrestler walks to the ring (Vader and Tazz come to mind), or written to fit in synch with a wrestler's pre-match entrance ritual (Triple H, Chris Masters), or just gives you some general insight to the character of the individual itself (I always liked Sid's music... and then there was also the original Mankind music, where the entrance would be some deranged orchestral music, and the end of the matches would have a calm piano playing like Mankind had found some sort of inner peace after decimating his opponent). Besides, if James Dudley can be in the WWE Hall of Fame (I think I remember somebody on this board saying that he was just Vince Sr.'s limo driver or something), then Jim Johnston definitely should be in the HOF.

Thanks aaron,
I agree with what you added as well. The 1st entrance theme that caught my attention was The Ultimate Warrior's. That fits in to what you were saying about a character and their entrance theme "fitting" each other.
Jim Johnston is a master of this. That's why I think he needs a the least, some consideration for the HOF.

Sure, he should be. There's plenty of room in a HOF for contributors.

He should absolutely be put in. Great suggestion GK! You're totally right in that the theme can add so much to a character. Look at Chump Hogan for example. Now when I hear "Real American", I boo my brains out, but that's just me. It's definetely a "good guy" tune. Could you picture him coming out to that when he was a heel? It just wouldn't work. I really enjoyed Johnston making comments on the Warrior DVD (hey, they needed to fill time somehow). The 90's tunes probably sounded cheesy to guys in our age bracket, but to little kids they sounded cool because WWE was still trying to market to that demographic then. When the Attitude era hit, the music became more adult-friendly as WWE adapted its marketing strategy once again.

If he is able to be in it then the guys who build the ring should be too. Cuz the ring adds so much to the aura of the WWE. Gimme a break.

Actually I always enjoyed Real American. I didn't particularly like Hogan, but I liked the music.

Which is nice, but isn't that Rick Derringer's song, which would make it unrelated to the topic of Jim Johnston? Just saying.

I should have known that a music teacher would bring up this topic. I do agree that he should be inducted. Definately brought alot to the overall WWF/WWE experience over the years.
