I was reading this great column at 1wrestling.com about the John Cena and the ECW angles, and how they seem to be framing ECW vs. WWE as a war between fans of "Pro Wrestling" and "Sports Entertainment". www.1wrestling.com/news/newsline.asp?news=25766This got me thinking, am I a bigger fan of pro wrestling or of sports entertainment? I am probably in the minority in this board, in saying I am a sports entertainment fan. I like the promos and backstage stuff the most. I'll play COTG during the matches and start watching with the finish is happening (you can always tell when the finish is being set up). Even when playing COTG I never pay attention to the wrestling moves, just how the finish happens. To me the wrestling is just a means to the end of storyline development. So how many of you out there are pro wrestling fans who mostly watch for the matches themselves? How many of you are sports entertainment fans that are more interested in the storylines?

Admittedly I love the drama... but hey I'm a chick. I do however pay attention to the matches themselves, I always mark out on a good wrestler, and even more so on a good brawler *laughs*. Though for the most part I'm mostly a fan of those who put on a great show and keep me interested. I think this is why I am a bigger fan of RAW then SD! 9 times out of 10. ~Eve "The Unknown Mark"

I went Pro Wrestling and I'll tell you why...
Pro wrestling has always had outlandish angles, but more often than not, it led to a match between two (or more) wrestlers. Now...half the time is devoted to non-wrestlers, or putting non-wrestlers over wrestlers.
I don't mind nearly any angle, so long as it is ultimately being used to build to a match settled in the ring.

Out of curiosity, since you are in Midwest City...does that put you closer to IZW or Mid-South Wrestling Alliance?

Pro Wrestling vs Sports Entertainment?
HOnestly, I know there are a lot of ECW fans, but I'd say more Garbage wrestling vs sports entertainment.

Nice...
Haven't got to check out any MSWA, but some of their guys wrestle for TPW, where I'm training at...and some of our boys work down there (thanks in no small part to Michael Faith, I'm sure).

Ive only seen Michael Faith in action once in a unscheduled brawl with John O'Malley..that was great...MSWA is having a card on the 21st of this month, we plan on going...AACW's next card is June 9th in Guthrie...the indy scene rocks here...Ive made several bootlegs of some of the local talent here and play them occassionally, though I wouldnt call it one of my "official" feds...its something I will play when Im not in the mood for GWF, LOW, or RCWA

Hm...mind passing those bootlegs along to me?
Faith, if he were motivated and would drop a few pounds, could do some insane stuff. I've seen him half-*** it and I've seen him GO...he, O'Malley and Ryan Davidson had a triple threat in TPW that was great. Ryan hit a skytwister on O'Malley (wound up giving him a goose egg on the noggin) and Faith wiped out Ryan to pin O'Malley afterwards.

I can't vote on this - I love them both! As long as either is done right with talented performers, there is room for both of them in a show.

I've gotta say Pro Wrestling. I agree with the earlier post that you can still have the drama with the backstage stuff and promos etc. But it should still end up leading to a wrestling match and that both guys care about winning the match.
I just remember the stuff with The Big Show and Bossman when Bossman dug up Big Show's Dad's coffin or whatever *ugh*. Katie Vick and the necrophiliac stuff.
That's why HHH gets cheered so much, he makes it well known that the thing that matters most to him is the WWE Title.

Davidson~! He's one of my trainers now. Mitch Carter's great, but really full of himself. Nice...I actually know several of those guys personally...(not great friends with or anything, but talked to on a few occasions when they worked TPW shows)...

I'm a pro wrestling fan and always will be. Some SE is nice, but too much makes me want to change the channel.

Really tough one to answer, because as a kid, it was probably the 'entertainment' part that drew me to it...but the fact that it was guys 'fighting' was just as important. I remember acting out entire cards with those big rubber WWF figures in a WWF ring...I can remember watching Royal Rumbles with my friends and trying to keep track of who went out when and who tossed him out.
'Sports entertainment' is a very important part of the pro wrestling experience, but without wrestling, SE is nothing...without SE, you could still have wrestling...stick Benoit in the ring with Brock Lesnar for 60 minutes and let them tell a story...
Modern age wrestling is a combination of both...you need both to be able to sell your product...even ROH has angles and storylines...but sometimes WWE vears too far into the SE side of things that it neglects what is truly at the heart of their business.
