Didn't you wear a green dress with a tan purse and matching pumps to your last interview Robin?

Didn't you wear a green dress with a tan purse and matching pumps to your last interview Robin? No, I left those on the floor where you're girlfriend left them last night when she was at my place.

It depends on the job you are applying for. If you are applying for a job as a scrap yard attendant, gardener, or something along those lines, a suit is overkill. If you are applying for a professional job (teacher, executive, and other such jobs) a suit or dress slacks with a nice shirt and a tie is a must.

Well as someone who has hired several hundred people over my span at my job I will agree that a well dressed candidate makes a better impression about the person applying...and their resume might be dynamite...but the interview itself is what makes or breaks them. If you don't answer my tough questions well, you're out, no matter how well dressed you are. I have taken someone that looked like they just rolled out of bed & came in their pajamas to the interview because he could tell me exactly where he wanted to be in 5 years with my company & an exact timeline for how he wanted to achieve it. Today, he is in upper management & dressing much better than that first day. That said, it isn't supposed to matter what you look like to companies, that is discrimination, but it does in most cases. Present yourself in the best possible manner always. Even if your best is only jeans & a t-shirt. When you are comfortable with who you are & what you have done, your employeer will see your skills. Don't let your appearance discourage you from ever making an attempt at getting a job. It comes down to who goes into the interview wanting it more.
