Me & Suzanne can not agree on this one . I am orginally from Widnes . But moved down to Salford in 1994 . When I am asked , where am I from ? . I saw "Salford , but orginally Widnes" . Suzanne says my answer should be "Widnes" . Because that is where I lived all my life , before I moved to Salford . What do you think ? .

Yeah that is a toughy for me too when I am asked because I have lived so many places. I always answer Boston though because that is where I grew up and it the reason for my accent which is normally the reason in the past down south that the questioned was asked of me. So I say whereever ya were during ya careless adolescent when ya nutters dropped the city/town that help form you into the man you are. :-) So Wildnes is IMO the answer.

I'll agree with that. When people ask "Where are you from?" I take it to mean where you grew up. If they ask "Where do you live?" then you answer where you're living now.
Fortunately I can say "Western Maryland" in both cases now and be fine.

In Detroit "Where you from" means where do you live or where do you stay right now.
"Where you at" means where are you right now.
