I saw the favorite TV Show Poll... and thought of this. I like to read, ALOT. I thought maybe you all did to. I'm a sci-fi and fantasy girl myself. ~Eve

This is the easy answer out but I love to read everything...it all depends on what part of my mind and personality is hungry when I go to pick up a book...
right now I'm reading *a short history of nearly everything* by bristow. it's cool.

That sounds cool, whats the gist of it? Is it literally an overview of everything?

/me metaphorically looks over at his bookshelves filled with D&D, Discworld, LotR, M:tG, and other related topics.
I'll take "Fantasy" for 1000, Alex.

Lately I am reading a lot of motivational/inspirational books. Jack Canfield (from Chicken Soup for the Soul) and Pat Williams are my favorites. I am currently attempting to begin a career as a author/speaker. This is a HUGE leap of faith for me, and these books keep me focused and motivated.
When it comes to fiction, I enjoy Science Fiction. Orson Scott Card is my favorite. Sci-Fi author.

I think I should have put Sci-Fi and Fantasy together... it seems to me that usually if you like one you like the other... they kinda go hand in hand. ~Eve

But not necessarily in book purchases; there is a surprising lack of sci-fi on the overstuffed bookshelves (yes, plural) in the Ingersoll household. They are two distinct genres.

Gonna back up the "Pro-Fantasy, No Sci-Fi" crowd.
I'll watch me some Sci-Fi on TV, but only a little, and I never read it. Not even Star Wars. But I lurvs me some fantasy.
I'm a bigger fan of horror in my reading, though.

Same here on the fantasy. Tolkien, Brooks, Goodkind, Jordan, the Dragonlance novels, (and one I'll probably get razzed about) Piers Anthony.

I think I'd get bored stuck in one genre. The last 5 books I've read where 1) The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Clay 2) Jerry Lawler's book 3) Do as I say...(not as I do) 4) Freakanomics 5) Letters from a nut..
Pretty wide range there...

If I'm gonna read for pleasure instead of work, a good old-fashioned, dramatically well-written story will do me every time. As for the sci-fi fantasy debate, having seen enough of both where I work, I can say that when a book in either genre is good, it's very good. And when it's bad (which, sorry, is usually the case), it's frackin' horrible. That's why I'd rather not play Russian roulette and try to figure out which is which on a whim.
That being said, Robert Silverberg's stuff always made me happy ever since I was a kid.

Well, I just finished reading Dune and wanna read the rest of the series. I read alot of Dungeons and Dragons type-a-stuff (i.e. Forgotten Realms). I've read alot of the Gor books... surprise surprise. Our house is over-full with books.... we need bookshelves, lol. Right now I'm reading Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, again. Yes, I'm a Potter-head. I go through fazes, sometimes I'll read nothing but biographies, then I'll want nothing but fiction. I'm a flighty person.

I'd say 80% of what i read is fantasy, 15% Sci-Fi and the other 5% is wrestling related... Of course there is always the the odd stuff on the military for work...
