So the announcement that aCe 2121 will be available without a subscription to CotGOnline got me to thinking. Would it be a good idea if the sets that were CotGOnline exclusive be made available to the rest of the public as PDFs? I personally like this idea as I have not yet gotten a subscription to Online, and may not in the foreseeable future. I would, however, like to keep my favorite fed (The CPC) running. So anyway, just thought I'd see what the rest of the galaxy thinks.

Yeah, I think that was the point of the announcement about aCe being offered as a pdf file. And I think it's a great move by the gang at Fed HQ.

PDF Files are great, but there should also be something exculsive to online players and buyers. Although I must say that have the game table is a great thing. I can roll out a match in less time then it would take to set up for old fashion dice rolling session, but I still do that too.

I think everything should be released in the "original" format, I don't think there should be anything exclusive. Limited Edition cards are ok, but that should be the limit.

Yes, but it should be several months after the online package is released.

The pdf thing is a good move, but I do think the Online experience needs to have something unique to it. The colorization of the cards sorta is, even though a lot of folks here have avatars and banners with them. I'm sure the boys in charge will come up with something beyond just exclusive cards, nice as that would be.

I see that point Mark, but I wouldn't want to alienate a huge portion of your fan base by simply limiting it to being online. I have absolutely no problem if every set was released via .pdf files (as long as the resolution was fine...at least 300 dpi would be preferred). I think the color cards are something nice for fans of playing online. But truthfully, probably like many, I'm on the computer at work all night. I've always looked at the dice and cards as a "bit of escape from reality".

I have already being doing this concept for a couple years now. I mail out my full color cards (NEXT DAY) and the booklets are all created in PDF's that can be downloaded from my site. Or if you want to find out about a character without guessing or wanting I also have all character bios of all 92 characters on the site. This way if we want to add to a storyline or a typo is noticed we can make the change very easy and everyone can download the latest PDF. Saves on printing costs and shipping its been a real time saver. I have tired to even help with these concepts for the COTG website. KevinK www.krazykards.com

I like the idea of the sets being released as PDF files. However, COTGONLINE should have same exclusive features that make getting that product worthwhile.

I like the idea of the sets being released as PDF files. However, COTGONLINE should have same exclusive features that make getting that product worthwhile. I may be in the small minority in this, but I can't agree with that. Online seems more of a "niche" rather than the "norm" as most of us would rather roll the dice. I understood a few exclusives with the GWF Promoter, but Online is a pretty good chuck of change for many to shell out for.

I think this is a question more about what CotgOnline is going to be than anything.
If its going to be about 'icing on the cake' or a 'premium service' for current fans, there SHOULD be exclusives...I think the character progression tweaks fall under that category, as could alot of other things.
However, if CotgOnline is going to, at some point, be used to reach out to new fans (which I assume is the case) I think it should have the same stuff as if available elsewhere, otherwise, as mft said, you risk alienating people who want to have all the characters, but who aren't interested in Online.

Yes, but it should be several months after the online package is released. Sounds like a reasonable compromise.
