I'll be going online. I have enough items in the house and until I get motivated to have a garage sell, there's just no room for more hobbies. =) Well, I don't know about you, but when I play COTG, it only takes up about 2 square feet. Then I put everything in a box that's about the size of a shoebox. Man, your house must jammed packed. P.S. I am in no way dissing Online. I just thought squire's argument was a bit weak. So, a little ribbing is necessary. Hard plastic pencil case for the cards, dice and pens/pencils. Three-ring binder for the card results, with a sleeve for charts and manuals. So portable, I take it on most trips

I also much prefer the old school way ... I do have the online but it was only to get the ACE edition. Though I must say besides Esperanto and Godsend I am pretty much burying everyone else in my federation.
I like the old school way. Color is pretty but I would much rather have the cards and dice. I liked this game because it WASNT a computer game. My preference, you guys do whatever you like, everyone is different.

I think that at this point the expectation is that the cards would be the preferred method among the existing fan base, because this is what everybody is used to and like doing.
In the coming years we will most likely see a shift in overall preference as new customers are brought into the COTG Universe through COTGOnline...people who wouldn't play it as a straight up card and dice game.

But in the future we fully expect that the vast majority of COTGOnline customers will be new to the COTG world.

I think that is the point though. Payback said it best "If you don't like getting out dice and cards and using those to play the game then you don't like the game. It's not a computer game." That is just one opinion but the one one I think makes most sense. The reason I love COTG is that it isn't a computer game. I hope it birngs in new fans and support it but nothing could ever, in a million years, make me "shift" as Todd put it. If the game ever went online only, I'd just print the cards out anyways or stop playing and start over or something with the cards.

I agree with this.....I am a big supporter of aCe and how cool it has turned out online....and I'm a big supporter of the awesome job BDS et all have done....but when it comes to the GWF itself, I will play that game with dice and cards until the end. I enjoy doing the aCe thing online....and I probably will even at some point buy up all the GWF stuff online too, just to have and to support Tom.....but the whole sitting down with a notebook, dice and cards is something I've gotten joy out of for 20 years....and wouldn't trade in for anything.

Instead of writing down your matches and taking notes by hand, it just gets input into the ranking system. You don't 'roll' the dice, you click a button and the dice roll. Instead of pulling out a stack of B&W cards, you click a button and and two colored cards are there in front of you. I have two kids and a wife that require my attention...these things save me a lot of time. It's not like I now have a video controller and I'm button mashing to have Sectarian kick out of Chaos's big move. What used to be on my desk is now recreated EXACTLY on my computer screen 10' away. The game is now simply duplicated on a computer and I don't see it as the next Warcraft or anything. I see no difference whatsoever.

That's cool and I'm sure there are a ton of people who feel that way...me (and I don't have kids so what do I know), in this day and age where kids are all about my space and crap like that...I would want to influence my kids away from computer games, video games etc... and help them focus on sports and family orientated table top games that require great creativity like Champions...
I love the potential of what Online can bring Tom and Kris and Larry and this game but I also cling to the importance and legacy of my paper card and dice love that will never go away.
I guess because I don't have a my space and never got into video games except for Madden...always played sports growing up and champions...is why I feel such fierce loyalty to my cards and dice. That's just how it is for me. I stress, me.
Anyone who benefits from Online...that is awesome and I'm glad we have it. Anything that helps life long friends of mine like Tom and Kris and Mark is cool with me.

I know that whenever I introduce my kids to COTG it will be the cards and dice not the computer version first. I agree with Swarm that its good to have some activities off the computer.

My kids know COTG as a card game only. I think they have some vague realization of it as that thing that daddy works on a lot, but when we play together, we bust out the cards and dice, ignore the charts, and just have fun around the kitchen table. It's one of a lot of games that we play together, and I don't see that changing for a long, long time. The kids love it, too, because while we limit them to an hour a day on the PC or the Wii, there's no such limitation on board games or their imaginations.
When I play alone, though, I like to try to maximize the limited "Daddy Time" that I get - and COTGonline is the answer for that. The game plays a little faster on the Game Table, while still retaining the flavor of rolling the dice, and it logs the matches for me so I don't have to take any notes as I'm going. The more I can get accomplished in an hour or two after everyone goes to sleep, the happier I am.
Even with that, though, there are times that I like to just get the cards out, read through them, and hear the rattle of the dice. It makes me feel like a kid again, and that's something that I'll never want to get rid of, no matter how old or busy I get.

Are you saying the new Game Table doesn't have a 'dice rolling' sound effect?

Yeah, it does, but it's just not the same. One of those things that could never really be adequately represented on a computer. Even if it's a sound like a dice rolling on a kitchen table, it wouldn't sound like my dice rolling on my kitchen table.

Not true, since you're in charge, you could tape the sound of YOUR dice on YOUR table, and use that, no? (just busting on ya )

I could tape 100 different die rolls and randomize through them, and it still wouldn't sound right. It's just one of those little things that you lose in going to the PC, and that I like to go back for from time to time.
