no lines up for HDFights...hmmn oh well will have to wait for UFC I don't think there was enough action in the books to warrant coverage. I remember watching Erik Paulson (who I respect as a submission expert) 10 years ago...I can't see him credibly main eventing now. Old Lions Den fighter Guy Mezger is the matchmaker for Mark Cuban. Hopefully the show goes well. On a side note...all pending Kimbo/Tank bets have now been refunded.

I'll be at a wedding and the Sox will be playing but I hope to be back home and checking the results. Put some real cash on Big Tim and will do so in the league Don't worry...I'm sure anything that's worth watching will be available here. I went with a rejuvenated 'injury free' Tim Sylvia...who will be focused and have a huge size advantage. I also went with Franklin...who is capable of a decision win. Silva showed zero sprawl skills in his last fight and is susceptible to takedowns and ground control against someone who has a combo of good wrestling/GNP/sub defense. Ace has proven he has the stamina to go five rounds and he knows how to do 'just enough' to win a JD. Hopefully after all this time Rich has learned how to defend the Thai Clinch. __________________________________________________________ One final preview for last minute betting...trust at your own risk: Courtesy of docsports.com
Main Event UFC Middleweight Championship (185lb.)
Rich Franklin, 24-2 (+155) vs. Champion Anderson Silva, 19-4 (-190)When they first clashed about a year ago, Anderson Silva performed the equivalent of back alley plastic surgery on Franklin's face. Silva won in such devastating fashion that it's hard to see how Franklin will counter the Brazilian's world-class Muay Thai boxing that took him down the first time. The task will be tougher, however, for Silva since the event takes place in Rich Franklin's back yard, but Silva has proven he is a champion by defending his belt twice since wrenching it away from Franklin. Since going down to Silva, Franklin has put together two impressive victories over Yushin Okami and Jason MacDonald, who, coincidentally, will face off on one of the undercards. The betting line has Silva as a heavy favorite and I agree that this will be one-sided. Put your money on Silva to finish it the same way he did before. Prediction - Silva by KO
UFC Heavyweight fight
Tim Sylvia, 25-3-0 (+150) vs. Brandon Vera, 8-0 (-180)
Both fighters have been away from the Octagon for a while, but for very different reasons. Sylvia had back surgery after losing his belt to Randy Couture in March and has been rehabbing since then. Vera had some managerial conflicts that kept him sidelined since last November. I predict that this will be the most explosive fight of the night. Sylvia claims to be 100 percent healthy and loves the stand up game. Vera's three wins by KO in the Octagon prove he's game to stand and trade with the 6'10" Sylvia. I look to see Vera take away Sylvia's base with muy thai kicks to the legs mixed in with the fists. If Vera can chop that tree down, the fight will end quickly once it hits the mat. Prediction - Vera by KO
185 lb. Division
Yushin Okami, 21-4-0 (-210) vs. Jason MacDonald, 20-8-0 (+170)MacDonald's only loss in the Octagon came at the hands of then-champion Rich Franklin back in March. He rebounded nicely with a victory over Rory Singer at UFC 72. Speaking of UFC 72, Okami suffered his only loss in the Octagon to Franklin that same night. Okami hopes to get back on the winning track by using his strength and wrestling skills, but MacDonald has proven he's no slouch on the ground or standing. The betting line has Okami as the big favorite and I think he will win, but I think this fight will be more evenly matched than the odds indicate so there could be value in betting on MacDonald. Prediction - Okami by SPLIT DECISION
Alan Belcher, 10-3-0 (even odds) vs. Kalib Starnes, 10-2-1 (-130)
Belcher is coming off a huge first round submission victory over Sean Salmon. On the other hand, the slightly favored Starnes had to endure a hard fought decision victory over Chris Leben. Belcher has the ability to end a fight with one punch, so look for Starnes to take the fight to the ground and utilize the "ground n' pound." Both fighters have shown that they can endure through three rounds and still win, but I think this will be over sooner than that. Prediction - Starnes by stoppage in the 2nd round

Decent show last night. Big Tim looked impressive...dominating the pace and showing aggression when necessary. A decisive win. Franklin showed good heart but had a horrible game plan. The man who beats Anderson Silva isn't going to stand up and 'strike' with him...he defended better from the clinch but his lack of takedown attempts lead to the inevitable. Travis Lutter lasted longer for a reason. Brock Lesnar was announced as signed...the hype graphic read 2000 NCAA Champion. There's a lot of potential here...but Brock defines a 'me first' mentality that could make booking him difficult. Tim Sylvia vs Brandon Vera Anderson Silva vs Rich Franklin Courtesy of Wrestling Observer Jason Black v. Matt Grice
Grice to the ring first. He looks nervous, like he knows he should be full of piss and vinegar, but can’t find it. He’s pacing, slapping his face and corner’s hands. He appears acutely aware that he has a tough fight ahead.
Black down now. He’s far more composed than Grice. He takes in a deep breath and stands patiently in his corner. He’s not pacing, he’s ready.
ROUND ONE
Nice throw by Grice to start things. Grice on top. Black tries a choke. Black pushes himself away from the cage. Grice with some nice elbows as Black tries to isolate an arm. The crowd goes nuts as Grice pulls out of an armbar. Black trying a kimura on the left arm. The crowd buzzes, recognizing what’s happening. Grice pulls out and lands some hard, short elbows. Grice with a beautiful guard pass. Black tries a sweep, but no go. Black back to guard now, Grice still pounding with nice right hands. Grice to half guard, but back in full by Black. Nice series of punches from Grice. Black tries a kimura on the right arm, the crowd goes nuts, he’s almost got it, Grice rolls out. They stand, the crowd is going crazy still, a number of knees from Gice, then back to the mat, Grice on top. Black again trying the Kimura , he’s got it, it’s deep, and tight, but the bell saves Grice.
10-9, Grice.
ROUND TWO
Grice has energy, Black’s mouth is open.An incredible series of punches from Grice while standing opens the second stanza. Just amazing and Grice might have it finished here. Black is hurt bad. He’s down! The ref moves, he might stop it, but Black moves again. Grice Thai clinches and lands more. A huge right to the head as Black is on the mat. Black pulls into guard and is tying Grice up, recovering best he can. Grice postures and nails Black with hard punches. Grice is pummeling Black right now. Grice to half guard now. Black forces him back to full when Grice failed to get side mount. Black’s face is a mess, bloody and swollen.
Triangle attempt by Black. It’s DEEP! He switches it to an armbar. Grice falls to his back, but Black has it held. They’re both throwing punches while in this position. The ref is checking closely. It’s deep. While holding the triangle Black applies a Kimura. HOW IS GRICE SURVIVING! Still in the triangle, Black has mount with 5 seconds and is reigning down punches. The bell saves Grice but this is absolutely incredible. Just one of the greatest rounds you’ll ever see. I literally cannot hear right now. Grice can barely stand and his corner had to help him to his seat.
10-9, Black.
ROUND THREE
Grice controlling early with strikes. Black shoots, but Grice stuffs it. Black tries a guillotine but Grice moves to side mount and pulls his head out. Grice in guard now, tries to cartwheel pass out. Black again with the guillotine attempt. Black looking for a Kimura on the right side again, but Grice countering by attempting to pass. Grice is methodically working GnP at this point, not taking any real chances or giving Black any openings. That last round took a lot out of both men. BIG bombs from Grice momentarily stuns Black, but he seems to have recovered. Grice with a battery of left hands, and now right elbows. He’s pulling away with this round and possibly the fight. Black tries a Kimura AGAIN, but Grice steps around and escapes. Scattered boos at the round comes to a close. Not nearly as much action as the first round. Crowd comes alive with 5 seconds remaining as Grice lands bombs and both men are given a deserved standing applause.
10-9, Grice.
I have it 29-28 for Grice, but the first round was close and the second round was so crazy it’d be tough to score. Black looks like he’s been through a war, while Grice mostly seems fine.
Official result: 29-28, 28-29, 28-28, we have a draw and the crowd is ANGRY!
Rogan is interviewing Grice. He says he thought Grice won, but the crowd is booing still. Not Grice so much as the judging. In fact, when Grice said he thought he won the fight, the crowd cheered.
SOMEONE COUNTED THE SCORES WRONG! GRICE IS THE WINNER! Rogan made a crack about how someone can’t count.
Josh Burkman v. Forrest Petz is up next.
Petz to the cage first. He has a calm look on his face. Crowd booed upon finding out he was from Cleveland.Burkman out now and the crowd pops for him. He’s definitely a name to those in attendance. He looks even calmer than Petz.
ROUND ONE
A clinch to start things. Josh with a takedown, pushing Petz to the cage. Petz tries to scale up like Liddell butBurkman punches him then falls back with a guillotine. He’s really cranking. Petz pops up. After a little bit of nothing, Burkman stands himself up and immediately works for a double, he gets it and the crowd cheers the slam. Petz again trying to walk the cage but Burkman is sinking his hips down while throwing punches. Petz up, then tries a takedown, Burkman with a guillotine, both men up and Burkman lands an elbow off the break. Both land a few punches. They’re fighting in the clinch. Burkman fakes a punch, tries a takedown, but Petz blocks. Burkman with a fancy spinning kick into a takedown. Close round.
10-9 Burkman.
ROUND TWO
Burkman lands a big hook to open the round. Petz with a hook off a clinch break. Both men are wildly swinging. Burkman seems to be pressing forward a bit, he eats a right then loads up on a left that misses by a mile. Good jab by Petz. Burkman tries the takedown but Petz is defending very, very well. Great defense by Petz!
They’re both tired. Petz is continually landing good body shots. Crowd is growing restless as this is slow. Petz is the aggressor now and Burkman seems tentative. Petz is mostly landing when he wants, then getting out before he’s in danger. Another hook to the body. Burkman shoots, Petz defends.
10-9 Petz.
ROUND THREE
Burkman is starting the round tired. More body shots from Petz. Good exchange, Burkman seems hurt, but Petz is cut. Burkman is desperate for a takedown, but Petz is stuffing well and answering with knees. Off the clinch this time, Burkman does nothing. He was always throwing punches before, but now he’s gassed. Good jab by Petz, then a right straight to the body. Burkman is making a conscious effort ot keep his hands up, but they’re naturally falling. Burkman’s head snaps back off a jab. Right to the body by Petz. Burkman tries a kick, but Petz answers with a punch. Crowd booing again. Petz just dug into Burkman with a sick right hook to the side. Unless something happens, we’re gonna have another upset.
AND IT DID!!!! Burkman with a huge left hook sends Petz to the mat. He’s too tired to finish though. They scramble and Petz is on top, escaping a tired looking guillotine. Petz on top, pounding. He throws a wild right that misses by inches. The round closes with both men throwing punches. Damn close round, but I’ll give it to Burkman. Burkman did nothing except for the left hook, but that hook was pretty much equal to everything Petz landed throughout.
10-9 Burkman.
29-28 Burkman on my card.
Official result: Burkman by majority decision.
Demien Maia v. Ryan Jensen up.
Maia out with some sweet Last of the Moheicans (sp?) music. Jensen is coming out to the music the Chicago Bulls use for their entrances. Jensen looks a bit bigger.
ROUND ONE
Maia is pressing early. He immediately shoots and gets it to the ground. Dangerous place for Jensen, given that Maia is a world-class grappler. Easy guard pass by Maia, but Jensen is holding his own a bit. Maia to mount, but Jensen gets him back to butterfly. Maia takes his back in a scramble and is looking for the rear naked choke. He’s got it and Jensen taps. Impressive performance for Maia, who did exactly what he needed to do.
Maia put over Jensen afterwards. Very humble in victory and surprisingly well-spoken.
Crowd cheered when they saw that Yushin Okami v. Jason MacDonald was up next.
Crowd knows MacDonald. Okami got a significant number of boos. MacDonald is the favorite for sure. It appears there are quite a few Canadians in attendance, including three dudes who painted their chests. Really.
ROUND ONE
Okami moving forward, gauging the distance with his jab. Clinch against the fence, both men reversing one another. Good knee inside by MacDonald and a sick foot stomp attempt. Referee tells both men to do something. Ref breaks them up aftger nothing happened. MacDonald with a shot, Okami defending well. Good balance. Crowd is booing again as we go to the clinch. And people wonder why this wasn’t airing live on PPV. MacDonald tried an inside trip, but
Okami’s Judo is too good. They break and Okami lands a nice 1-2 combination. Probably the most significant strike of the round and it wasn’t much. Okami with a knee. MacDonald lunged in and Okami timed it with a beautiful right hook. He just did it again. Okami won the round in the final seconds.
10-9 Okami.
ROUND TWO
Okami with some decent punches to start. More clinch fighting, what a surprise! Okami with a brutal kick to the body. Best strike of the match. Okami has timed the right hook perfectly and MacDonald is losing every standing exchange. Okami with double underhooks for a moment and he gets the takedown. In a shocker, Okami opened up a bit while on top and landed some solid strikes. Okami’s posture is strong and MacDonald isn’t defending the punches well. A big right hand slammed the back of MacDonald’s head in the mat. He’s almost done, then Okami fell back into a heel hook. They scramble and Okami ends up on top again. Good action. Guard pass by Okami with ten seconds remaining.
10-9 Okami.
ROUND THREE
Good straight right by MacDonald opens things up. MacDonald tries a trip takedown, but Okami reverses and ends up on top. Okami mount, but MacDonald forces half-guard. Back to mount for Okami and this is solid. MacDonald gives up his back. Okami is going for the choke, but Jason defends. Okami back on top, now in half-guard.
Okami working with solid punches, but nothing close to a finish. Round ends and yet another Okami fight goes the distance. Crowd is mixed in their reaction.
10-9 Okami.
I have it 30-27, Okami.
Official result: 30-27 across the board for Okami.
From Dave Meltzer:
Kalib Starnes vs. Alan Belcher are up next.
Hell of a first round. Almost all standing and Belcher dominated, opening up a nasty hold in Starnes' head early in the round. They are letting Starnes go into round two. Belcher dominated most of the stand-up with an attack of punches, elbows, kicks, knees and low kicks. Starnes made a comeback in the middle of the round, but it's Belcher's round for sure.
The doctor ordered the match stopped early in the second round because of the cut. Starnes threw a fit. Starnes claimed he doctor said he saw his skull and stopped it.
Fans predictions are 54-46% in favor of Franklin???
Stephan Bonnar vs. Eric Schafer is up next.
They are former training partners when both were Midwest guys.Bonnar didn't do much in the round. Schafer used some leg kicks and got the fight to the ground, once pulling guard, second with a takedown. Second time he got Bonnar's back and was working for a choke. John McCarthy also warned him between rounds that if Bonnar grabs the fence again he's using the fence. Schafer 10-9.
Schafer pulled guard to get it to the ground to start the round. That ended up being the wrong move. On top, Bonnar just punched him over and over the entire round. For the last minute, Schafer was just covering up and doing nothing. He took a ton of punches. None were killer punches but Schafer was doing nothing but trying to survive and John McCarthy stopped the fight,
They are teasing that they will announce Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell, as they keep showing Silva in the front row and asking who he's going to face in his debut.
Alvin Robinson vs. Jorge Gurgel is up next.
First round was all on the ground. Gurgel was on top, mostly holding side control while Robinson kept moving and moving to get guard, but Gurgel kept moving. So basically a fast-paced grappling match with Gurgel keeping top position. No real damage but Gurgel's round.
Second round saw Robinson on top most of the round and he was pounding Gurgel most of the round. He was hurting him badly. Gurgel kept going for armbars from the bottom but never came close. Robinson was throwing punch after punch and it may have been only a few seconds before being stopped. Gurgel's face is a mess. I'd give it 10-8 for Robinson but they'll probably score it 10-9.
Robinson was on top and pounded him most of the round. He didn't come close to finishing like in round two, but there's no way he doesn't get the decision either 29-28 or 29-27 (the latter would be my score) . Gurgel really got pounded and the home town crowd is totally quiet. Good fight overall.
Scores were 29-28, 29-27, 29-27.
Tim Sylvia vs. Brandon Vera is next.
The people hate Tim Sylvia. He's waving the American flag, they are booing him. Unlike going with the flow, he looks very unhappy about this. He looks so sad about this.
The first round was major hatred from the crowd. Vera wanted it in a clinch but that made it less exciting. Vera seems nervous. They did some trading and Sylvia was connecting more. Vera connected with one punch. 10-9 Sylvia.
This match was sucking royally. Vera got a takedown midway through the round but didn't do much on the ground. He threw an illegal knee as Sylvia had a knee still on the ground when he got nailed hard to the temple. Ref Yves Lavigne came Vera a warning but didn't dock him a point. Sylvia got a time out to recover. Vera scored with a body kicka and a good punch in the waning seconds. Vera 10-9 so we're going into the third to decide it. Crowd actually went nuts just seeing Vera get offense even though this is a bad match.
Sylvia dominated the stand-up most of the round. He cut Vera on the top of the head. Vera said he broke his hand which may have been the reason he didn't throw much. Sylvia just kept throwing when they were separated. When the glove came off, Vera's left hand seemed swollen. Bad match until the last minute or two. Sylvia 29-28 is the score I've got.
Scores were 29-27, 29-28 and 29-28. Crowd is booing Sylvia like crazy during his promo. Sylvia challenged Cheick Kongo. That's after the whole match they were teasing Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira as the opponent for whomever won. That was a WCW moment.
Realistically, they need a good main event to save the show.
Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin for the middleweight title is up next.
Franklin looks a lot more confident than I expected. Obviously this is a doubly huge fight for him because this is the night people in his home town will remember for 25 years, win or lose.Hell of a first round. Franklin did a lot better but Silva is just a higher class of fighter. Silva dropped him with a punch with seconds left. The bell saved Franklin. He still seems dazed going into round two.
10-9 for Silva.
Silva is still getting the clinch and throwing knees. Franklin did catch Silva with some nice punches.Silva took him apart with knees from the clinch and knocked Franklin down. Hard knee to chain, punch, low kick, and he crumbled after two more knees to the head and that was it.
Fans cheered both men after the fight. You have to recognize Silva's talent in this one.

How stupid is it to not air the Okami fight? Ridiculous. We get Kalib Starnes?? Come on!
I was actually rooting for Sylvia tonight. I had to take a shower afterward because it made me feel icky.
Anyone get annoyed with the repeated "Is there anyone out there that can beat Silva?" Well, yes, Dan Henderson, Paulo Filho, Dennis Kang, and Matt Lindland. Unfortunately only one is in the UFC.

How stupid is it to not air the Okami fight? Ridiculous. We get Kalib Starnes?? Come on! Starnes is getting the TUF 'star' treatment. It was the same deal with Gurgel and Bonnar...both of whom have also lost and aren't deserving of a 'main card' slot. Things may soon be getting even worse with the rumored Rashad/Bisping...MAIN EVENT...where it's rumored the 'winner gets an automatic title fight'. So much for contendership outside of TV Land.
