I'm not sure if Rampage winning was the best result for UFC from a $$ standpoint, but you know the promos will be amazing.
Karo is the bomb. I saw a lot of great judo technique today at the Am-Can International Judo Tournament here in Buffalo today (none of it mine). Over the weekend, we had about 750 competitors from around the world. The judo community really seems to embrace Karo.

I'm not sure if Rampage winning was the best result for UFC from a $$ standpoint, but you know the promos will be amazing. I think it was a win/ win for the UFC. Chuck wins, and they can keep him on the same circuit he has been on, and set up a few more good fights. Honestly, his list of potential opponents was still small, even with the Pride deal. Rampage on the other hand, has never fought Babalu, nor Jeremy Horn. Tito would fight him if it meant Tito getting back in the limelight, plus there are losses to Wandy and Rua for Rampage to avenge. In addition, Rampage is perfect for media spots like the The Tonight Show or whatnot. He will certainly provide entertaining segments. I see him like in a Mohammad Ali -type mold: someone that can deliver off the wall sound bites, get people interested and is talented to boot. How can we not embrace Karo? He is making people aware of an oft- neglected sport in this country. I love the fact that he is winning and making good use of his throws, getting people aware of the sport of judo. Judo is the second most popular sport in the world behind soccer, and a large majority of the populace of the US could not tell you any difference between judo and karate. I swear I'm gonna brain the next person that uses the term "judo chop" and not referring the Austin Powers movies. Glad to see another judoka on the board! What rank are you? I start working on my third degree bown (sankyu) in a few weeks.

Currently at ikkyu and holding. Chronic problems with my knees, back and hip have me on the shelf. I am a recreational player, but I love the sport. I'm on the committee that puts together the Am-Can Tournament, and volunteer as a match-setter for it. I'm also looking at getting into refereeing to help me stay active in the sport.
We have a fairly large club with several well respected instructors. We also are lucky to be near Brockport, NY and Dr. Sachio Ashida, a 9th Dan who coached the 1976 U.S. Olympic team.

I hear ya on the chronic problems- getting old is not fun! I too am a recreational player. I will do a few tournaments, nothing too large, but I am really doing it because I love it.
Reffing seems fun, I may try that in a few years.

I am curious, though, as we have a few new people posting in this partof the forum: How do you guys feel the UFC pay per views compare to WWE pay per views? Apples to Oranges. WWE feels much more like a "show" or "spectacle" where as UFC feels like boxing...like everything but the Main Event is free TV stuff and your money is for the Main Event.

I agree with Swarm, the two really aren't comparable. They both have their pluses and minuses, which I'm not going to take time to post. Its just understand, they touch on a similar market, but do not appeal to the exact same crowd.
