A decent show for free television....but far from the upper tier of past UFN's. Melvin losing was a nice way to close out.
Courtesy of Wrestling Observer
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is at the show. It is expected he will be introduced as the new heavyweight signing for UFC during the live broadcast tonight.
Thiago Tavares b Naoyuki Kotani. Straight 30-27 scores. Boring fight. Tavares controlled all three rounds with takedowns in a mostly ground battle.
Roan Carneiro b Rich Clementi. Again straight 30-27 scores. Carneiro scored takedowns in every round. He was going for a choke and had Clementi's back for the last several minutes of round three.
Kuniyoshi Hironaka b Forrest Petz via unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28 and 30-27. Hironoka scored with takedowns in every round. Petz connected in the second round with strikes and bloodied Hironaka, which was likely the round one judge gave him. Hironaka was about to apply an armbar as time was running out.
Kurt Pellgrino b Nate Mohr in the first round. Pellegrino took Mohr down and controlled him, finishing with an ankle lock.
Drew Fickett b Keita Nakamura via unanimous decision with scores of 30-26, 29-27 and 29-27. Fickett won the first round and opened a cut on Nakamura punching while in the guard. Second round was mostly standing with Nakamura picking Fickett apart. However, he used an illegal bionic elbow (12-to-6-downward arc) and was given a penalty point. Fickett got a takedown and controlled the entire third round to take the match.
Wilson Gouveia b Seth Petruzelli early in the second round. Petruzelli went for a takedown at the start of the round and was caught in a guillotine. First round went back-and-forth. Petruzelli was winning the standing striking battle, but Gouveia too him down and and scored with ground and pound to apparently win the round.
Kenny Florian vs. Dokonjonosuke Mishima opens the live TV show.
Good first round. Mostly wrestling and grappling with a few switches. Florian scored with more solid punches from the top. Mishima looked for submissions but never threatened. Florian also hit some good leg kicks standing. I'd give it to Florian 10-9.
Florian dominated the round. He doing a number on Mishima's right leg with kicks. At one point when Mishima slipped, Florian pounded on him from the top. Worse, Mishima is tiring as well, but he's tried some wild stuff. Florian has to be up 20-18 at this point. Mishima really isn't showing much other than the ability to stay in there.
Good round three. Mishima caught Florian with a kneebar and came very close to submitting him because he had the hold good and you could see Florian in trouble. Mishima switched to a heel hook. Florian escaped and began pounding on Mishima from the side, got his back, and finished him late in the round with a choke.
Antoni Hardonk vs. Justin McCully is up next. McCully is a long-time pro wrestler in Japan. They showed Samoa Joe in his dressing room backstage.
First round was interesting. Boring most of the way. McCulley took Hardonk down and hit him with weak punches, but then dropped some good elbows. Hardonk got an armbar late in the round but never finished it. I'm guessing McCully gets the round on the judges scorecard but I'd give it to Hardonk for the near submission.
No question on round two. McCulley bulled Hardonk into the corner and took him down. McCulley pounded him out the rest of the round, busting his left eye and bloodying his mouth. Never close to finishing Hardonk but McCulley easily took the round.
Round three saw Hardonk take control early with punches and knees, but when he threw a knee, McCulley took him down and kept him there the rest of the round. He threw enough to be annoying and to win the round, but not enough for it to be a good round or anything. I've guessing scores will be 30-27 across for McCulley, but I've got it 29-28. Either way, he's winning. Yep, all three judges gave it 30-27.
They did a B.J. Penn vs. Jens Pulver face-off. They sure did a good job projecting not liking each other, which as best I can tell, is the truth. The crowd was pro-Penn. Pulver said he liked the show, the fights were great and he'd love to do another six weeks of it. Penn then said he'd never do it again, and vowed to break Pulver's shoulder.
Joe Stevenson vs. Melvin Guillard is next.
Stevenson took him down, went for an ankle lock, Guillard escaped and Stevenson caught a guillotine and it was over in 27 seconds.
Show is over and no announcement of anything even though Nogueira was there. He was also never shown. Seems like a wasted opportunity.

you know, after Guillard did not touch gloves and whatnot, I totally expected a surprise loss like that for him.
Karma, baby.

you know, now that he is fighting at his real weight, Florian is not bad.
But he still needs to drop the "Kenflo" nickname.
FloJo he is not.

A little late for this because i've been gone for a while but Melvin Guillard tested positive for cocaine after this fight. Not a huge, huge Guillard fan but very unfortunate to see this happen to such a young, exciting fighter. Hopefully he gets himself back on track.

Cocaine is some serious stuff to pop for especially now that Nick Diaz is fighting his Mary Jane pop and making a huge fuss about Titianic Tim's pop a few years back. Melvin should be gone.
