People who bet on Henderson, Diaz and Minotoro's opponent won big last night. Still cannot beliee the quick loss Minotoro recieved, nor the domination of Dan Henderson.
We meed to get some gogopolota action in the the UFC sometime.

Pride put on a first class show last night. Everything from the production to the sequencing to the announce team came off as highly polished and professional.
It's always good to see 'new names' presented to the US fans as they develop into stars. Hansen, Sokoudjou and Sakurai. These are guys who would probably never get exposure if we had a monopoly.
The atmosphere for Diaz/Gomi was electric. Nick has shown some very impressive stand up in his last two fights...and it was good to see him show maturity after the fight. The crowd has accepted him as a legit star. Gomi is a stud who despite a significant reach disadvantage did major damage and refused to quit.
Silva has been a great Champion and has nothing to be ashamed of. Yet now the Chute Box controversy starts again...will the GP Champion Shogun finally get his long deserved shot...or does he get dusted off to the sidelines forever?

Joachim Hansen vs. Jason Ireland opens the show.
Ireland hung tough in the first round. He got a takedown and a reversal late. Hansen had two takedowns and got Ireland's back twice going for chokes to win the round.
Hansen gave him a pounding early in the round with knees and punches from a Muay Thai clinch. Hansen dominated on the ground most of the round. He was throwing hammer fist after hammer fist at the end of the round and Ireland was probably saved by the bell. Ireland's left eye is swollen pretty bad.
Hansen was taken down, but worked for a triangle for a long time, and then did a nice transition into an armbar. Ireland held out but finally he either verbally submitted or the ref stopped it. Hansen was a different caliber of fighter, but we knew that going in.
Kazuo Misaki vs. Frank Trigg is next up.
Trigg won round one. He got a takedown and controlled Misaki the entire round. He was in side mount and also got his back. Trigg did enough punching to annoy Misaki and went for a facelock, and kept his position on his back until the end of the round.
Closer round. Trigg got a big takedown early and was doing the same as in round one. Misaki got to his feet and connected with some punches and kicks. He did the most damage in that minute or so standing. Trigg scored another strong takedown late in the round but neither did a lot of damage. I'd give the round to Trigg, but it's close and Misaki seems a lot less tired.
Trigg took him down twice more and used wrestling to dominate most of the round. Misaki had one shot standing but threw one knee that missed and was taken down. Trigg threw some knees to the body and punches to the body and head. I've got it 30-27 for Trigg, but I could see 29-28 as reasonable as well.
Scores were straight 30-27s across the board. This becomes a strong arguing point for UFC, since Matt Hughes twice and Georges St. Pierre once ran through Trigg in spectacular fashion, and now Trigg has beaten Pride's tournament champion a weight class up.
Travis Wiuff vs. James Lee is next up.
In a huge upset, Lee guillotined Wiuff off a takedown for the tap out win in 39 seconds. Lee came in and stunned Wiuff with a right and later a knee. Lee took the fight with only a few days notice.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Sokoudjou is next.
A superstar was just made. Sokoudjou with a kick to the body and a lariat like left punch to the face and he was out. Nobody has ever seen a Nogueira finished in that kind of a manner. And this Nogueira was expected to represent Brazil in the next Olympics in boxing. Fight only went 23 seconds.
Mac Danzig vs. Hayato Sakurai is next. Danzig just promised this would be the most exciting fight of the night. Okay, Kurt.
Well, Danzig may be right in the sense that was the best round of the fight so far. Sakurai did a judo arm whip and hip toss takedown. Sakurai came out like blazes with punches early but Danzig is a survivor and got out of trouble. Very entertaining fast paced round. Sakurai went for some submissions late as well.
Sakurai was destroying him with low kicks and then threw a right hand over the top that put Danzig out. Danzig is one tough guy, just way outclassed when it came to talent. Fight of the night so far.
Sergey Kharitonov vs. Michael Russow is next.
Russow, a strong heavyweight took him down a few times but didn't really know what to do except wrestle. When he started throwing punches from the top, Kharitonov got an armbar from the bottom for the tap. Russow was complaining about the ref stopping the match, and then the replay showed him clearly tapping. That was a new one.
Mauricio Shogun Rua vs. Alistair Overeem is next.
Overeem took Rua down a few times but when Rua was standing and Overeem on the ground, Rua basically did a diving punch to the chin and then followed with several more punches and it was over.
This show is moving along really fast. It's supposed to be a four hour show and we're barely two hours in with two matches left because they haven't done any post-match interviews until now.
Takanori Gomi vs. Nick Diaz is next.
This was one of the best rounds in MMA history. Diaz's size is too much for Gomi and Gomi barely escaped the round. Early in the round Gomi knocked Diaz down, and Gomi also took him down. It looks like Diaz is going to score an upset. The crowd actually booed Diaz early because they are pro-Gomi crowd. Potential fight of the year here.
Gomi connected with a knee under the left eye Diaz was bleeding really bad. Gomi was telling the ref to stop it. Gomi then took Diaz down, and Diaz immediately got a gogoplata from the bottom for the submission. Diaz's right eye is swollen like crazy.
They are going to have to do a rematch with Gomi's title at stake.
Wanderlei Silva vs. Dan Henderson for the middleweight title is up next as the main event.
They just showed in the video clips Silva beating Quinton Jackson, which you would expect, but then showed Jackson beating Chuck Liddell, then making the statement Pride is the best. Pride is coming off very TNA like in its approach (not comparing them as a show, because nobody, not UFC or WWE puts on a complete show like Pride). But not only a show, the fights tonight have been awesome.
Most of the first round was boring and people even booed. But later in the round were some slugfests. It ended with a flurry. Henderson was winning the round but Silva rocked him late in the round. Very close round. Not the same Silva as usual. Far more cautious.
Henderson won the second round big. He took Silva down and cut Silva's right eye with a shoulder strike. Lots of strong punches from the top, some body punches and Henderson just worked him over like Silva has rarely been worked. Henderson found something that works.
Third round saw them swinging wildly and Henderson caught him with a left hook and Silva went down and out. This was not the same Silva as before. Henderson becomes the first man in history of a major promotion to be simultaneous champion in two weight classes. Barnett said he doesn't remember the last time Wanderlei was knocked out. Yeah, we all forgot the Cro Cop fight that seemingly spooked Silva.
This will go down as a legendary show.

I thought it was a great show, too. Sokoudjou knocking out Noguera was awesome. The five guys I was with had a simultaneous "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" moment when we saw that, and there are a couple hardcore Nog fans among them.
We'll see if he and James Lee are for real or if they got lucky. Lee, not sure. Sokoudjou, I'd say watch out. The guy's young and obviously got some stand-up skills.
Silva's reign was a great one, but I'm not surprised at all that he was knocked out. Gomi's loss was a bit more surprising.

You know the funny thing is. Pride really should just shut it's mouth about having the best fighters and quit making the jabs at the ufc. Nick Diaz and Frank Trigg just owned two of their top stars.
By the way I'm not making a ufc vs Pride statement, I just think Pride looked kinda dumb after having two UFC wash out's clean house. Lose of face asside killer show. It's funny seeing people trying to make sence of last night but to be honest, I'm shocked as well.
The announce team needs work still. Liked the new fighter intro's. Oh did anyone notice the slight distortantion in pre fight interveiws? Everything that worked last night was classic, and everything that didn't seems like something that can be easily fixed.

Pride 33 Payroll
Courtesy of MMA Weekly
MMAWeekly has obtained the fighter salary information for Pride 33: The Second Coming, which took place on Saturday, February 24th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The following figures are from the fighter salary information that Dream Stage Entertainment was required by law to submit to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Although MMA fighters are not unionized, the fighters' salaries are still public record in the United States, just as with every other major sport in the US.
The question of, "How much do Pride's fighters make when they fight in Japan?" still remains unanswered, but the fighter salaries for this event do provide a great deal of insight into this question.
Given that Pride's Japan-based shows often fill the 35,000-seat Saitama Super Arena, it's likely that the salaries for the USA event were smaller than the salaries for a show in Japan, but it's unlikely that the two sets of numbers would be drastically different from one another.
Just as with UFC fighter salaries, any undisclosed bonuses that Pride also pays its fighters, but does not disclose to the athletic commissions, are not reflected in the figures below.
As with UFC salaries, we're listing "Main Event Fighters," "Main Card Fighters," and "Preliminary Fighters." All non-main-event fighter for this card are listed below as "Main Card Fighters" because there were no preliminary bouts on this card. None of the fights were taped before the show went on the air, so there were no "Preliminary Fighters."
Though our listings still note which fighters won their fights and which fighters lost, there were no winners' bonuses on this card. In addition, next to each fighter's name is the number of fights that he has had in Pride.
Main Event Fighters
-Wanderlei Silva: $150,000 (28th fight in Pride; lost to Dan Henderson in main event)
-Dan Henderson: $50,000 (18th fight in Pride; defeated Wanderlei Silva in main event)
Main Card Fighters
-Mauricio "Shogun" Rua: $50,000 (13th fight in Pride; defeated Alistair Overeem)

Diaz-Gomi was awesome. Seeing Diaz pull off the mild upset was cool he seemed to use his reach really good, pulled a great submission on Gomi. Diaz's eye was blown completely up, would have been a shame to see the fight stopped on that.
Its awesome to see Henderson as a dual belt holder but major props to Wanderlei who had a fantastic run as champ in Pride.

Man, just saw the card tonight. What a stacked, exciting, and upset-filled event!! Never saw the Diaz, Henderson, or Lil Nog outcomes. Been a while since I've jumped off my couch for a fight. Hopefully Im wrong but it looked like the Axe Murderer was more timid than usual. You think it was the initial barrage of Dan or is he still affected by Cro Cops crushing KO?
