--B.J. Penn and Jens Pulver as coaches for the next season of Ultimate Fighter was made official in a Spike TV press release today. Both Penn and Pulver will appear on Inside the UFC tomorrow night to discuss the coaching and a scheduled summer fight between the two of them. The season opens 4/5, but the six weeks of filming in Las Vegas begins in a few weeks.
LWPD (great to see Penn back in the limelight...this season will focus exclusively on the 155 lbs division)

Good to see they're getting back to the formula that made TUF a success.. I also think its a good they're waiting 'till the Spring to air.. they've definately be getting overexposed a bit...

I agree with Hab...they could start a new season right after another one finishes and I'd be happy. I'd love to see a weekly sort of UFC show any how. Wish they'd show more of the stuff other than the tireless replays of the Unleashed I've seen already. I need some new.

Well it's what I was worried about if mma ever tryed to make it big like wrestling did. MMA even if you showed all the old stuff would tire out kinda fast. The reality show allows for new fights almost every week to show case new talent. I wonder when we'll start seeing wec talent on the ultimate fighter.

TUF 5 Production Starts This Week Finale To Feature A Coaches Battle
Season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter starts production in Nevada this week with former UFC Welterweight Champion B.J. Penn and former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver at the helm. A departure from its traditional format of two separate weight classes, Season 5 will feature 16 155-pound fighters vying to be named the Ultimate Fighter and receive a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
While Season 4 saw the fighters contemplate the opportunity of resurrecting their fighting careers with a shot at the title in Comeback, there is no indication that Season 5 is a comeback of lightweight fighters, but sources reveal a list of one-time UFC veterans participating in the tournament to possibly name a contender for the lightweight championship held by Sean Sherk.
Tryouts were held in December 2006 at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL. An eligibility restriction for Season 5 was that UFC veterans could not have more than one UFC fight.
The new season premiers April 5 on SpikeTV with a scheduled June 23 live Finale featuring a fight between coaches Penn and Pulver. The two fought previously in January 2002 at UFC 35: Throwdown, where Pulver won by Majority Decision in a hard-fought 5-round fight. He was later stripped of the title.
