I like the lineup. I think both finals are very close although I would give an edge to Lutter and maybe Serra. I think the Bisping fight not on the card hurts the depth but I am excited for the finale.
Am I the only one that is sort of bothered by the fact that guys who didn't make it to the finals are on the live brodcast? Granted they have in the past shown prelim fights to fill time but usually is just the guys that win plus 1-2 other fights from fighters in the UFC.

Hopefully everyone will fight to finish and the lack of star quality will be made up for with solid action from top to bottom. Time will soon tell.

Well, its over....Lutter won, no big surprise. Serra won, I think it shoulda went sudden death. Scott Smith vs. Pete Sell was match of the night, stole the show. Let me know what you think.

It was passable for a free card but nowhere near the level of previous TUF Finales. I think this will be reflected in the ratings once they come out. High end sponsorships were also down a bit.
Sell/Smith was good for what it was largely due to the finish. Lutter won in dominate fashion and earned his spot. Serra was more aggressive and earned the decision. Hopefully he'll drop to 155 and challenge for Sherk's title. There's more upside to him in that division.
Now it's time for UFC to stop the ratings bleeding, move forward and come up with a better theme for TUF 5.

Edwin Dewees vs. Jorge Rivera opens the show.
Rivera came out firing. Dewees fired back, but Rivera decked him on a counter punch and threw punch after punch on the ground. Dewees was trapped in the corner but was blocking most of the blows when it was called. He wasn't happy about the stoppage.
Rich Clementi vs. Din Thomas is the next match airing.
First round saw Thomas dominate with superior boxing, including scoring a knockdown.
Second round was more of the same. As Clementi was tiring, Thomas took him down in a mount, and worked his way into a choke for a tap out win late in the round.
Pete Sell vs. Scott Smith is next.
This was a crazy round. They went out there swinging and then after a flurry would high-five each other in the middle of the round. At the end of the round they hugged. Smith scored a knockdown and cut Sell under each eye to win the round. Smith was cut under the right eye as well. This was the best round so far of the night.
Match got even crazier. Sell was winning the round and thew a left to the rib and Smith was huriting bad. As he came in, Smith just rocked him with a desperation punch that hit squraely and Sell went down. John McCarthy stopped the fight. Smith looked the more hurt of the two. When it was over Sell looked a mess but wanted to continue while Smith was writhing in pain on the ground. This will be hard to beat for fight of the night.
Travis Lutter beat Patrick Cote to win the Ultimate Fighter. Lutter took Cote down immediately, got a side mount, the back, and finished with an armbar. A quick textbook BJJ fight.
They did a Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre split-screen satellite interview to build up the match. Hughes seemed kind of tired. This wasn't what you'd want out of this situation.
They had a Bodog Fight commercial in the middle of this special. Wow. By the way, there must have been a dozen TNA ads and Mike Goldberg even plugged the Impact replay being on Wednesday night at 11 p.m.
Martin Kampmann vs. Thales Leites is up next.
Leitis scored a knockdown in the first round as well as a takedown and dominating positioning late in the round. Easy 10-9 fof Leitis.
Kampmann dominated with the stand-up, with low kicks, high kicks and good punching. Leitis, who had his nose bloodied up, was just hanging on for the last minute of the round. 10-9 for Kampmann so round three will decide the fight.
Third round was a slugest. This was a good fight. Kampmann was technically skilled but didn't have the power. Leitis was firing back but was overwhelmed by punches, kicks low and high, knees and more. Kampmann also scored a knockdown. Should be 29-28 for Kampmann.
29-28, 29-27 and 29-27 for Kampmann. That means two judges ruled first round even, or more likely, two judges gave round three to Kampmann 10-8.
Matt Serra vs. Chris Lytle is the main event.
Crowd is really into this fight. They like both guys a lot. First round was intense. I'd give Lytle the slight edge as he got a takedown and some ground and pound. He also avoided Serra's takedown.
Most of round two was Serra trying for a takedown and never being successful. Lytle threw a few locks off the clinch. I'd give both rounds close to Lytle but this last round could have been almost ruled even.
Third round was very close. Serra finally got a takedown, but Lytle tied him up in his guard and got a stand-up. Most of the rest of the round was Serra trying for a takedown but not getting it. Very hard to call on this one, maybe slightly to Lytle. I suppose I'd call is 30-28 for Lytle.
Scores are 30-27 Serra, 30-27 Lytle, Marcos Rosales calls it for 30-27 Serra. I'm shocked. Fans are booing this heavily. Serra was the aggressor in all three rounds but it was a bad call as Lytle did more damage in all three rounds.

Serra/Lytle to me could have went ot either guy. Lytle did do more damage but he needed to come out more agressive in round 3. Its cliche but anytime its a close enough fight and you let it go to the judges it's a crap shoot.
I had heard rumors for months for the next season was 8 veteran 155s and 8 younger guys. They did announce a casting call for 155s so they will be doing 155s but not sure if they will include veterans.
I've said it before and I will say it again. Anytime there's free MMA on tv its a good thing. Nothing was terriable and Smith/Sell will go down as one of the most crazy finishes ever.

At first glance I almost didn't want to watch it. It turned into time well spent. In my view I think this was the best undercard we've ever seen in an ultimate fight night (performance wise).
Considering they made a watchable show with people the ufc was more or less done with should be the real issue. Sure the ultimate fighter season was bunk, but they had a show where Rivera was exciting! That's a miracle (And no small one at that). The fight night did what the season failed to do. Make lemonade out of lemons.

Ultimate Fighter rating is pretty bad. Saturday night's special only did a 1.1
LWPD (The Ultimate Fighter is signed up for four more seasons...so while this year was a step backward...the series is working with a sense of security and hopefully has learned what 'not' to do content wise in the future)

I am surprised; free fights are still free fights.
And the show was not THAT bad.

I ended up watching the replay twice so maybe people like me will help the ratings over all. I found the card to be pretty exciting but I can't help but think that Serra still has a long ways to go to get to the level of the current UFC champs. He just still seems so one sided. If the guy learned to be a better boxer and, even better, kick boxer he could be amazing. Loved the finish to Smith/Sell.
