I am surprised nobody posted anything on this yet. With the fight coming up this weekend, who are you picking to win?
I do not think Hughes will underestimate Penn as he did the first match (light training). I think we are seeing a different Hughes than last time- more well rounded at least. Still I look for a Dec win for Hughes. Penn looked too flat in his last few fights.

Matt Hughes is the better conditioned fighter. The longer it goes the more it plays to his advantage. Penn has better stand up and is a superior submission fighter and has a tendency to start very strong...but he loses focus as time goes on. Matt can GnP his way to a decision by scoring takedowns without taking too much damage standing and then dominating position. BJ needs to inflict damage standing and then finish with-in the first two rounds...or else he'll fade.
LWPD (it's a myth that Matt Hughes didn't 'really train' for his first fight with BJ...he just got caught and BJ RNC'd him...Hughes admits he was 'out' when he turned to his back...no amount of training can compensate for getting tagged like that)

Oh I certainly do not mean to take anything away from Penn- he totally took Hughes out of his game, disregarded the strength difference and stuck to Hughes like an octopus. Penn deserved that win, especially since Hughes made two "wrestler" mistakes- giving his back twice.

To be honest I think "the prodigy" just got really lucky vs. Hughes the first time. I can't see Penn even thinking he really has a chance, but is willing to take the paycheck. Penn was outclassed by "rush" in his first match back in the UFC, and Hughes has outclassed St. Pierre. BJ didn't do much of anything when he left to Pride. I'll get the PPV, but I'm waiting on Liddell v. Silva.

According to Dana White the Liddell/Silva fight is off indefinitely. Both sides wound up playing politics. Pride even offered to send Cro Cop against Liddell in the event that VS can't be medically cleared in time....but that's just posturing. The details and money issues came to an inevitable stalemate. When BJ Penn left the UFC the first time he went on a tear against top tier competition...scoring victories over Duane Ludwig, Rodrigo Gracie and Renzo Gracie. His only loss was to Ryoto Machida...who had the benefit of a decisive weight advantage. Never sleep on BJ...he comes from a wealthy family and fights because he 'wants to' take on the best in the world and because he genuinely loves the sport. When he's on he's deadly.
LWPD (if the GSP/Penn fight was under Pride rules BJ would have won the decision hands down on the basis of damage inflicted...when he's focused few MMA fighters in the world are better pound for pound...it all comes down to which side of Penn shows up to fight)BJ Penn Highlight

Man am I sick and tired of hearing "well if this fight was under Pride rules!"
How do you know penn would not have been repeatedly yellow carded in later rounds?
On top of all that it wasn't Pride. Penn was a free agent at one time and for better or worse he went back to the UFC. A place where he should (by now) be familiar with the rule set (as with most of the fans who feel the need to say "But in pride") It's not.
That's like watching a collegic wrestling match and having a mma fan in the crowd shaking his head going "you see in mma this is where he could pull out a sub." Or watching a boxing match and that same fan sighing going "man what I wouldn't give for a take down."
Penn's gas tank is holding him back. After recent events (with out spioling anything) I think we can agree on that.

Or watching a boxing match and that same fan sighing going "man what I wouldn't give for a take down." Funny you mention that: I was watching of the Contender shows this week and when the two fighters got really close together, I was thinking "Why does one of them not shoot?". Then I remembered what I was watching. ;D

I just kept thinking "man why can't this be the ultimate fighter?"
