What are your guys thoughts about this? I think entertainment-wise this is awesome. Also the purist in me thinks we will finally see who the best pound-for-pound fighter there is out there. The only downside I see is safety. These days since every one is skilled size DOES matter. Look at Barnett German Suplexing Yuki Kondo. With someone as skilled as Josh facing someone almost 100lbs smaller than him could spell disaster for the smaller guy. Dont get me wrong, I am behind the open weight fights, I just hope no one gets seriously injured.

I'll be interested to see, but I am not really a big fan.
I remember vividly Dan Severn's double suplex on Anthony Macias who weighed at least 70 lbs less than Severn.

Four weight classes (Light, Welter, LW & Heavy) could see some mismatches but I think the real treat is in watching those who dominate in a weight class below step up to meet one above. Something like Gomi vs Henderson for example would be great to see but normally would never happen. This at least makes it a real possibility...although I don't expect either to get past the bigger guys in the end!
Like Watching Paint Dry (who hopes we'll see Mark Coleman vs Vanderlai Silva in the first round)

I am certain that Coleman and Silva will occur in that tourney in some capacity.

Kohsaka and Yoshida were announced as the first official entrants.. I'm way glad they went with Kohsaka. Always had a soft spot for the guy.
Who's next? pleasepleaseplease Coleman/Silva

Yeah habbalah.. I think this is one instance where CroCop can start preparing for the next round. Minowa can't take him down, can't strike with him, and is way smaller... so...? I love CroCop, though, so I'm happy.

Kazuyuki Fujita vs Wanderlei Silva Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs Hidehiko Yoshida Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Fabricio Werdum Josh Barnett vs Mark Hunt Fresh from the rumor mill this is what i could gather for the next round of the open weight. www.mmauniverse.com/news/SS550

Damn, I like Werdum, but there's no way he's getting past Nogueira.
I think both Cro Cop/Yoshida and Barnett/Hunt should be good. Iron Head might give Silva a run, too.

Who going to fight Fedor in December? I'd like to see Josh Barnett and Fedor go at it but I think Mirco will get another shot.

I think Fedor/ Nog 4 will be like Fedor/ Nog 1,2, and 3- Fedor simply imposing his will again.
I am a big Nog fan, but I do not think he will do it.
I thnk someone's best bet in beating Fedor is striking. And that will lead to CroCop or Silva.
Fedor/ Barnett would be a decision win for Fedor. Fedor is just as strong as him, so that is one advantage taken away. Fedor has also been in the submission game longer, and is more comfortable.one the ground. It may be en entertaining fight. Maybe Fedor gets some payback for Aleks?

For variety and spice I want Nog to LOSE! If Nog loses that Barnett fight hell will break loose! I think Cro Cop vs Fedor 2 will be a proper sequel. It could take Fedor out of the game more so then he has been already.
Josh Barnett has the chance(very slight one for the King of Pancrase) to beat Nog, Cro Cop(Silva), and Fedor in 2006. Not to mention the fact that he has beaten Kazuhiro Nakamura, Aleksander Emelianko and Mark Hunt already this year. He'd be a shoe in for fighter of the year(cough decade if he keeped it up).
I honestly see Nog and Fedor fighting again. I hope it doesn't happen. I'll be happy if he loses to Josh or Mirko or Silva.

Duce, I once said the very same thing about Randy when he fought chuck the second time.
TIll this day I'm still pissed at myself. To hell with variety and spice. I want Nog to take FEDOR! I can think of no single fighter who flat out deserves it more.

Well here it is, Cro Cop has left Pride. The biggest prima dona in mma has left japan. I say good. However what a poor time to up and dip on DSE.
What do you think would be 5 good replacements for Mirco? Who would match up with Wanderlei well.
