I saw an interesting debate regarding how to make use of an 'open source' program based off of COTG. The program is called COTG Desktop. kinsmangames.com/cotg-desktop/ COTG Desktop allows players to input data and simulate cards 'on the computer' with your game play system as it's foundation. This has created not only an interesting option for players looking to save time or try something new...but also opens the doors to potential problems. Since with time the problem side has the potential to grow larger if left unchecked I thought it would be good to get your views on the issue out in the open. * Through a mechanism like this program those who possess your sets can readily 'reproduce' the card stats and play them out on this program. Is that something you are comfortable with? * Would you ever consider selling a form of 'zipped file COTG Game edition card stats' that can be used in conjunction with the given open source program? * If hypothetically speaking others were willing to do 'the leg work' and build the compatible files and there was virtually _ZERO_ work to be done by you other than distribute the files on the online store (with an 'as is'/not affiliated with the program sale) would that have any effect on your position? * Are there concrete immediate term plans in place to develop your own COTG Computerized version of the game at any point in the foreseeable future?
LWPD (while I don't know the size of the 'computerized COTG' market if an open source program already exists that makes the market a reality it may be feasible for you to seriously consider becoming 'the source' of compatible card stat distribution...if not for the purpose of profit...than at least for the sake of your own protection)

These are some excellent questions and I don't want to answer them too thoroughly here without getting outside advice and thinking them through. Sometimes I get too busy creating, marketing, etc., that I don't consider my policy on these kinds of things.
One thing I can say with certainty is that Filsinger Games has been working on a computerized version of the game. These plans are very concrete and I began doing research with Kris Osk on planning and development two months ago. Therefore this topic will require a clear response on my part since Filsinger Games has plans to proceed in this direction. I'd like to think that this is wildly good news for our loyal game fans even though it's being announced a little earlier than I planned.
Above and beyond that there may be other issues I'd need to consider and I'm no legal expert. My goal is to protect the best interests of the game...my greatest fear being players getting game stuff without purchasing it. I have no idea what the legal boundaries are and how these things are defined so I'll need to find out.
Thanks for letting me know. I hope my response at this point is helpful. I'll find out more and respond again. A New Age of COTG madness is upon us and it'll be fantastic!

Awesome news. I will definitely just wait on your version, Tom Old Bean, instead of doing all the input on the Desktop version. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

wow i once again have been blown away by Tom. I can't wait to see a computer version put out there, an official one at that. I just learned about the desktop that LWPD mentions and actually downloaded it yesterday. Pretty neat and i would hope that others wouldn't use it in a way that would bypass buying from Filsinger Games, but at the same time i'm realistic and it could lead to problems. i think if Filsinger came out w/ their version though that 1) most fans would by from Filsinger (hopefully) and 2) it would be far more better quality. I know I already got it on my wish list!

Is there a way to import a file without allowing it to be exported as well?

Definately a good move for Filsinger Games to make for positioning the brand for the future. Although it will be hard for me to break away from the cards and dice...

The only time I use the COTG Desktop program is when I'm playing one of my bootleg promotions. I could attempt to enter the stats for all of the official COTG and LOW cards, but there're so many that it would take too long to do them all. It took me about a day and a half just to input all of my bootlegs, and there were about 30-40 or so of them. The official characters for not only the GWF, CPC and LWF (not to mention aCe, which I'm not taking part in) have got to total at least 100 or more.

I use the COTG desktop program all the time. With my schedule, it is the only way I can ever have time to play! I don't think that it will cost Tom any sales, really. It isn't like it is really advertised or anything (Except on this board) One of the things that I like about this community, is that everyone is looking out for Filsinger Games instead of just themselves. People make bootleg LOW cards, and still comment that they can't wait to be able to purchase an "official" one. When someone (Usually innocently) mentions having someone e-mail a chart or something that they lost. People always respond to check with Tom first. This is so different from the mentality that many people have towards music companies, or large software conglomerates. People try to take advantage. I think because Tom has always encouraged everyone to be creative with his game system, and never tried to stifle anyone, we all try to look out for him. It is kind of like family!
...that being said, I would definitley support an official "Filsinger Games" computer version of the game. My recommendation is to follow the model for COTG desktop, because it gives the best "feel" of the game, in my opinion.
Whew, that's my rant for the moment...

Well said Dave. I think the loyalty we see on the board is because Tom has always treated his customers with a great deal of respect. That builds trust and loyalty in people.

Amen!!!! ;D I use COTG Desktop for much the same reason as Dave. It has enhanced my gameplaying because I have more time to create the writeups. The second that Tom comes out with an official computer program, I'll buy it much the same as I do everything else put out. ~Trav

I might be in the minority here, but I would rather have a sim. Much like darren Hobbes E-Cotg. The one copy I had you could choose to use choice , leave the ring, etc. and you could put in scans as well. This led me to really get into my cards. It made it much easier for me to get done faster. Don't get me wrong, I also use Desktop. But only when I know I have more time. I think his program is great, but definitely would prefer a sim. Just my 2 cents.

toss any and all suggestions so Tom can cover everything with this project! It would be awesome!!!! I hope it has some way of helping with adding in comentators for matches and interview stuff. Hopefully it helps with running the fed like today's wrestling... no comericals needed.

I for one, have always wanted to see a way for time to be accurately portrayed in the game. I've tried to take stop watches to moves on the wrestling shows, and it seems like that it takes 1-2 seconds for a striking-type move, while submission holds can go on as long as 1-2 minutes, and I'd like to see how this would play out in CotG. I have no way of accurately portraying time right now, and everything I've tried in the past never worked.

I personally like COTG Desktop. But inputting cards into the program is a major pain. I am making a prog that lets you type them in line by line. But it is a work in progress and is not totally user friendly.
