For the last two years, this board has operated under an unofficial set of guidelines that have never really been spelled out. Sadly, recent events have made it clear that this state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue. So with that, we present the Code of CotG Discussion! (These rules are presented in no particular order of importance.)
1) No unmarked spoilers; you don't have to use the "black-out" method, but it would be a good idea if you're introducing spoilers to a non-spoiler topic. A topic devoted to spoiler information MUST contain the word "SPOILERS" in the subject; anyone who puts a spoiler in a subject will earn a swift (temporary) banning. Use your judgement as to how long something remains a spoiler: as a rough estimate, TV shows have a shelf-life of about a week (unless a show tapes several shows in advance, like TNA Impact), movies and books a month. When in doubt, err on the side of caution. Also, please bear in mind that the various time differences around the country/world may result in one person's "live" show being shown on delay (whether a few hours or entire days) elsewhere; do not assume that everyone has seen something just because you're watching it "live".
2) No (intentional) bypassing of the swear filter; if you wish to "mask" profanity, no more than the first and last letters of any word should be visible AND ONLY ASTERISKS ARE ALLOWED (ex: s**t, f**k, a*****e; not $#!+, @$$hole, or whatever); "f-ing" or "f'n" are also acceptable substitutes for that particular word. We would actually prefer it if you just found another word.
3) Keep personal matters private; if you have a problem with another poster, take it up with either a moderator or, if it's not a serious issue, with them personally VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE. Dragging this garbage into the public view will just make the problem worse, especially since many times these cases are caused by simple misunderstandings or misinterpretations. This includes comments about mod behavior -- there are several of us; you should be able to find one to whom you can bring your case. This also includes allusion/accusations as to a poster's real-life identity, in the event that someone opts to use a "screen name".
4) No threats; do not threaten any sort of phyiscal harm to another poster, their relatives, their pets, their credit score, their property, or anything else you could think of -- even in jest -- publicly or via PM. This is a zero-tolerance rule. Any abuse of this rule (i.e. lying in order to get someone banned) will be met with equal punishment when discovered.
5) Keep it clean; no adult or racy content is allowed, including links to such sites. Discussion of sexual matters (such as people posing for adult magazines) should be kept as mature as possible; "tongue-in-cheek" is ok, within reason. The same goes for alcohol and drugs.
6) No trolling; expressing a dissenting opinion is not the same as intentionally posting something just to get a rise out of people. Be sure to back up your statements with evidence or you might be slapped with the troll label.
7) Banishment means "no posting"; if you are tempbanned and are caught making a second account in an attempt to duck it, it will be your last.
8) No personal attacks; Name calling, insults or other comments that are demeaning in nature to another poster in any way will not be tolerated.
A note to would-be "Thantos"es out there: Violation of any of these rules (except where noted) could result in a temporary banning if we feel the offense was severe -- or repeated -- enough. We don't mind having to edit a post here and there, but if you're making a habit out of it you will have to sit out a few days. If you don't seem to get the message, you will be banned longer and longer until we finally just grow tired of putting up with your nonsense and lock you out permanently.
The only "push" you'll receive for being a code-breaker here is "out the door".
(This thread is locked as these rules are not up for discussion. The mod staff may add comments or addendums as need be.)
MOD EDIT: Rule #8 added on 6/20/06.
1) No unmarked spoilers; you don't have to use the "black-out" method, but it would be a good idea if you're introducing spoilers to a non-spoiler topic. We would actually prefer it if you just found another word.
2a) If a "normal" word or name -- like the common nickname for Richard -- winds up being filtered, then the mod staff will consider whether we will change the filter (if we can) or if we just have to deal with it on a case-by-case basis. We'll probably ignore intentional bypassing in the case of names -- and only names ("D ick Hutton"), but don't think that gives you the right to name a character in your fed "Freddy F****r" or something equally "witty".
2b) Contrary to previous agreements, this rule will apply to the Fed Forum(s).
3) Keep personal matters private; if you have a problem with another poster, take it up with either a moderator or, if it's not a serious issue, with them personally VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE. This also includes allusion/accusations as to a poster's real-life identity, in the event that someone opts to use a "screen name".
3a) Don't confuse parody in the Fed Forums with personal attacks. While the line may be quite fine in some cases, parody has been a tradition in wrestling for some time now (for good or for ill). The content expressed in the Fed Forums are in no way representative of the opinions of the moderation staff nor of Filsinger Games, and are solely the viewpoints of the fed's owner. There is no reason to read a fed that doesn't entertain you, even if you're the one being parodied.
4) No threats; do not threaten any sort of phyiscal harm to another poster, their relatives, their pets, their credit score, their property, or anything else you could think of -- even in jest -- publicly or via PM.
