You can use my strategy for better spelling on message boards.
1. Avoid words you can't spell. There are always options when writing.
2. Keep a dictionary handy.

Did anyone else have a spelling test in 10th grade? I stopped having spelling tests in about third grade. By the 10th grade I was writing essays.

I stopped about fifth or so.
But I understand them being in school. As a high school teacher, I can attest to witnessing atrocious spelling.
The worst are the kids who use that leet crap. They hand in English essays and science labs with crap like "u" and text messaging abbreviations. And they get mad when you tell them differently.
Do not even get me started on homonyms....

Homonyms are better than text message abbreviations!! You gotta be kidding me with that.
I don't know how much spelling tests really helps improve spelling.
I think the better way to improve spelling is to place a greater emphasis on reading. Not only does it improve spelling, but it expands vocabulary.

We have spelling tests every week, twenty words.
The teacher I have also teaches eleventh grade and they also have spelling tests.
And yes we do essays too, a lot of them. In fact one is due tomorrow and I wrote about how Tom inspired me, it is a good one.
