aCe Theme Songs, the 2121 version! [spoilers]
« Thread Started on Jun 2, 2007, 8:19am »

If you haven't seen 2121 yet, there are probably some spoilers below. You have been warned. Also, some of the links are to songs that aren't entirely family friendly. You have likewise been warned.

My wife and I like to have theme music for each of the guys ... it helps us get the brains firing on all cylinders when it's time to write up results. And since I'm going to try to do just that this weekend, I got to thinking about music for the new crop of guys. We had theme songs all laid out for the 2120 roster, and we've finished redoing it for the 2121 roster.

I base the choices off of a few things. First off, it's got to sound like wrestling music - it's hard for me to describe it, but I know it when I hear it, because I've watched enough wrestling. I also either want the words of the song to make sense for the character, or I want to be able to picture the walk down the aisle to the music. So without further ado, our list for 2121 and the rationale behind the songs ...

Shepard - Audioslave, "Show Me How To Live"
"Nail in my hand / from my creator / you gave me a life / now show me how to live." Very appropriate lyrics, and it's got a good strong opening that just makes it feel like wrestling music to me.

The Archangels - Revis, "Seven"
It's kind of somber and haunting, which I think is appropriate for the angels, and the lyrics are based on Revelation. I might have preferred some big organ piece initially, but the tone of this fits with Shepard's music, and I'd rather listen to this when I'm trying to write, anyway.

Aegis - Guns 'N' Roses, "Civil War"
It was either this or "Hero" by Chad Kroeger and Josey Scott, but I went with Civil War here. It's much less happy and triumphant, two things that Aegis shouldn't be yet.

Lance At-Las/Light Brigade - Metallica, "Wherever I May Roam"
"Roamer, Wanderer / Nomad, Vagabond / Call me what you will" We're done here.

Aspin Northstar - Creed, "My Sacrifice"
I have this picture in my head of a WWF style music video like they did to this song back in the day. It's of Aspin missing the FLASH OF BRILLIANCE over and over again, landing on his neck each time and fighting to get back up. It gets this spot solely because of this visual.

Avarice - Enigma, "Sadeness"
Totally Holli's choice, because she sees Avarice as having something of a God complex and this being fitting music for him. It was better than using something like PInk Floyd's "Money," which would have been way too cheesy, so I went with it and it's grown on me.

Ventross - Drowning Pool, "Bodies"
It seems appropriate. Ventross is kind of angry and nuts.

The Others - Disturbed, "Land of Confusion"
The lyrics are perfect, I love this version of the song, and the music matches what I've picked for the other members of the Ravager race, for the most part.

Nemean - Faith No More, "Epic"
Although it should actually be a custom version of Christian's old theme music from when he first broke away from Edge, pyro and all. Epic is a good substitute, however.

The Regulators - Warren G and Nate Dogg, "Regulate"
How could I not? I can even picture Espo and Hustler doing that little dialogue at the beginning of the song. Plus, I see them as being a very unified faction, so just one song for all of them works for me.

The Tribes of Primus
They don't get music. They just come down to the ring with other Tribesmen banging drums for them.

Godsend - Carl Orff - "O Fortuna"
My fed dictates that I have no other choice here.

Nightmare - Ozzy Osbourne, "Mr. Crowley"
My favorite theme music of the whole bunch here. The lights go out except for a spotlight on the ring, the organ part starts up, and as it ends there's a puff of shadow mist in the ring that Nightmare appears out of right on the first "Miiisster Crowleeey!"

Darkseed - White Zombie, "Devil Man"
Dude! C'mon!

Hellraisers
Together, they come out to the opening organ solo of Mr. Crowley and then segue into Devil Man when it ends. Nightmare of course, doesn't appear until he comes out of some shadow mist at a dramatically appropriate time, because that's what Nightmare does.

Murdok - DJ Z-Trip featuring Chester Bennington, "The Walking Dead"
Very appropriate lyrics, especially for the whole Murdok/Aegis/Trisis situation. Also, there's a little clip of a distorted voice saying "Do you believe in life after death?" at the beginning of the song that is exactly how I picture Murdok's voice.

Gheist - Cypress Hill, "How I Could Just Kill A Man"
I don't think this needs much explanation.

Zombie Nation - White Zombie, "More Human Than Human"
Kind of a slap in the face here from Murdok to the ROC, plus it's got an appropriate sound for a heel team.

Nicodemus - The White Stripes, "Seven Nation Army"
I picked this for Nicky last time, before I knew about the 2121 story. Now that we know what happens with everyone's favorite mad Ancient, it makes that much more sense to me. The lyrics are incomprehensible and fitting for Nicodemus' madness, Nicodemus would have a seven nation army if he had seven nations to draw from, and the song has a beat that you can goosestep to.

Hybrid - White Zombie, "Superbeast"
Last White Zombie song. Promise.

Warfare - Saliva, "Click Click Boom"
We picked this last year, and just decided to roll with it. I wanted to change it to Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage," then I listened to it and remembered how horrible a theme song that would be.

Tekaro - Stabbing Westward, "Save Yourself"
Very fitting for Tekaro, I think, especially now that they cut off the NuBorn vaccine from everyone else.

NuBorn Destruction - Godsmack, "Whatever"
It's angry and loud, much like NuBorn.

General Rankor - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, "Red Right Hand"
Rankor was always hard for me to come up with a good song for. This is one of my favorite songs and it's somewhat appropriate for Rankor, but it's probably just here because I've never thought of anything I like better for him.

Shock Syndicate - Metallica, "One"
"Tied to machines that make me be." All of the lyrics in this song are perfect. You've got two formerly noble souls in Trench and Holocaust who've been twisted and warped by Rankor, and now they're trapped in machines of his design.

Mr. Bloat - Ozzy Osbourne, "No More Tears"
It's about killing someone and then humping the corpse. I'm not sure how this could be more appropriate for Bloat.

Sycophant and Master - Marilyn Manson, "The Beautiful People"
This one comes direct from Osk himself, and I'm not inclined to contradict him in this instance.

That Enigma choice for Avarice is awesome. Great song for a guy like him to stride down to ringside by.

The White Zombie choices are great too, though I admit to being biased :)

You totally rock for picking Stabbing Westward for anything.

Not sure about "Bodies" for Ventross... I don't see him as crazy, but rather driven...I think "Princes of the Universe" by Queen. (maybe just the instrumental part)

I think some else for Aspin too... I'll have to give some thought to what though.

I like most of the others :)

I hope the people of Centra like rock...geesh. Anyways, yeah, alot of good picks and as much as I like "Bodies" I have to agree, there has to be something better for Ventross. I would also recommend "Natural Born Killa" by Ice Cube and Dr. Dre for Gheist. But overall, nice effort put into this post.

I always thought that Exodus and Gabriel would come out to "Descending Angel" from the Misfits.... Awesome song and fits the fallen angel theme...
